Microbial bioprocesses and synthetic biology for fostering circularity in textile industry, co-financed by MUR PON Azione IV.5 and ALBINI GROUP
Pietro Butti holds a PhD in Converging Technologies for Biomolecular Systems (2025) obtained at Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, after a master’s degree in industrial biotechnology (2021). He is currently working as R&D scientist at Biomycs, a biotech start-up spin-off of the Indbiotech Lab, of which he is co-founder.
His main research interest are synthetic biology and metabolic engineering of microorganisms for secondary metabolites production. For instance, his PhD research focused on textile waste upcycling to natural textile dyes and other small molecules of commercial interest, through engineered yeasts.
He has tutoring experience with both master’s and bachelor’s students, as well as as laboratory tutor for the Industrial Biotechnology for the Production of Chemicals and Bioenergy course.
His international experience includes a research collaboration with University College Cork in the group of Prof. John Morrissey. Beyond academia, Pietro works as a freelance graphic designer for scientific communication.
